The New Orleans Dyke March is a non-violent, anti-racist direct action demonstration and celebration of dyke visibility. It is a grassroots-organized, community building event, one night a year that we stand together as a united front, to demand our rights and safety, and to rejoice in our commonalities as well as our differences.

It began as a reaction to the male-dominated, corporately co-opted and commercialized Pride festivities that have become more and more alienating to women/dykes over the years, leading to an overall loss of emphasis on politics and issues of great importance to the dyke community.

The New Orleans Dyke March does not accept corporate sponsorships/donations, offers all our events on a sliding scale donation basis, and seeks to bring attention to the issues which affect our daily lives. In most basic terms, we seek to offer something dyke-positive and not cost-prohibitive for queer women to do to express their pride, celebrate their lives, and be in community together.
